Putting mirrors on the walls – which are the best ideas for living room mirrors?

Here are a number of reflective living room decorating ideas that you won’t need to go through the looking glass to find.

Aside from being aesthetically pleasing, it can also transform the proportions of your living room.

Owen Pacey, founder of Renaissance London, says mirrors have been a favorite tool of interior designers for decades because of their versatility and ability to make a statement in almost any room.

Here’s how you can decorate your living room with mirrors

Your living room can be enhanced with the right accent mirror, adding character and finesse to the most visible area in your home. The following tips will help you choose the right mirror for your living room and where to place it.

Here are some tips on how to choose and place mirrors in your living room:

1. Next to the window

If you have a large mirror on the wall opposite the window, it is the perfect way to beautify your living space. Mirrors reflect light and give the impression of space. An ornate rectangular mirror would be ideal for this purpose.

2. Hanging above the mantel

The majority of Indian homes do not have mantels, unless they are heritage homes or mansions. Instead of hanging an oil painting above the mantel, hang a circular or rectangular mirror above it. Select a frame that matches your decorating style.

3. Across the hall

The use of a mirror in the hallway or at the entrance to the living room can make the space appear larger and more spacious. The mirror should be proportional to the size of the space. Small decorative mirrors are an option.

4. Leaning against a wall

An inclined mirror in the corner of your living room is one of the trendier ways to add a mirror to a room. A small studio apartment is ideal for this type of mirror. In a pinch, the mirror can also serve as a dressing mirror. Although it does not take up much space, it refines the setting. Make sure you select a full-length mirror or one that has generous proportions.

5. A wall accent

Put a series of mirrors of different shapes and sizes on a hand-painted wall in your living room for a clever use of mirrors. With this, you can create an eclectic focal point in your living room.

If you have a living room, consider these tips. Ensure that the mirror enhances the general aesthetics of your room and brightens up your decor tastefully. You’ll be the talk of the town when your friends see it.

MIRROR IDEAS FOR THE LIVING ROOM

Adding mirrors to a living room can make a big difference, whether the room is small and dark or large and bright. Here are some of the dazzling living room mirror ideas you might enjoy, from mirrored walls that make your room feel twice as big to modern silhouettes and rustic finishes.

1. ENHANCE THE APPEARANCE OF SMALL LIVING ROOMS

In addition to contributing to the lightening and enlarging of a space, a well-placed mirror can be an element of interesting design, says Pacey. The addition of a mirror to a small living room is particularly impactful among small living room ideas because it can create the illusion of more space.

Mirrors are a great way to reflect the outdoors, and broaden the feel of a space. Hang one opposite a window or very near one.

In this room, full wall mirrors make the room feel twice as large, but smaller mirrors also add a lot to the room’s feel.

2. GO IN A FULL CIRCLE

Consider choosing a perfect circle for your living room mirror when choosing a shape. Particularly if it is framed minimally, the on-trend shape makes your mirror feel like a portal to a parallel universe. The choice can enhance any living room, but it is particularly effective when used alongside other mid-century modern living room ideas. Christine Retlev’s 1930s West Village apartment features an Otto Schulz mirror that pairs perfectly with the mid-century Scandinavian pieces in the living room.

3. BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE REFLECTING

The place you place your mirror is only half the picture – you should also consider what is opposite it.

Think about how you want your placement to reflect your personality. You can use a mirror to place your favorite piece of art at an unexpected corner of a room, opposite a window to let the outside in, or in a passageway to show what’s to come in the next room.

You can also create a sense of depth by tilting your mirrors towards a focal point.

Living room mirror types

The purpose of living room mirrors is largely decorative, adding impact to the room. Wall mirrors work well, allowing you to place more functional furnishings on the floor. Consider selecting a shape that is reminiscent of the lines of the furniture it will be placed above. The use of large, rectangular mirrors above fireplaces makes a bold statement, while smaller mirrors can be integrated into a gallery wall.

How to hang a mirror

Having the center of a mirror at eye level, usually 150cm from the ground, is the most effective. Make sure that the distance between the bottom of the mirror and the top of the furniture is at least 15-20cm.

  • To make sure there are no wires, pipes or studs at your chosen spot, use a pipe detector and live wire detector
  • In the spot where you intend to hang the mirror, mark the wall where the hanging wire will go. For mirrors that don’t have a mounting bracket, attach one to the mirror first, then mark the wall where you need to drill each hole
  • For a drill, drill a hole into the wall, insert the rawl plug, then screw the screw a good portion of the way into the rawl plug. Repetition is the key.
  • Make sure each nail is hammered into the wall, leaving the end exposed
  • Check to make sure your mirror is straight (and clean) before hanging it
