What is a Paloma Cocktail
Tequila is the base of the paloma cocktail. Tequila is usually combined with lime juice, grapefruit-flavored soda, and a lime wedge. It is usually served on the rocks with a wedge of lime. It is also possible to add salt to the rim of the glass.
Look no further than the Paloma if you’re looking for a thirst-quenching tequila cocktail. The classic Margarita is a good change from the Mexican favourite.
History
Mexico’s most popular tequila-based cocktail, the Paloma, has an unknown historical origin. There is some speculation that it is named after La Paloma (“The Dove”), a folk song composed in the early 1860s. According to the DiffordsGuide, it was created in Tequila, Mexico, by legendary bartender and owner Don Javier Delgado Corona.
There’s sweet, sour, bitter, and salt; it’s got all four taste groups, as well as ice, bubbles, and alcohol.

The recipe
The perfect drink for a sunny spring day is tequila mixed with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, lime juice, and agave. Adding a little kosher salt to the rim of the glass will add a special touch.
- 50ml Tequila (the best is El Jimador)
- 50ml pink grapefruit juice freshly squeezed
- Freshly squeezed lime juice, 15ml
- 15ml is the amount of agave nectar
- Add Grapefruit soda water to your glass
In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine the first four ingredients. Fill a large glass with ice cubes, then top with grapefruit soda. Add a slice of grapefruit or lime to garnish.
Note: You can use grapefruit bitters and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice if you can’t find grapefruit soda and top with regular soda and maybe a bit of sugar syrup to taste if you can’t find grapefruit soda.
The Paloma is the drink of Mexico, not the Margarita. In any month of the year, the zesty cocktail is a delight, but on a hot day, it’s especially refreshing.
